9 December 2025 in the European Parliament
An event hosted at the European Parliament by Mr Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral,
Vice-Chair for Fisheries, Aquaculture, Marine Biological Resources and Blue Biotechnologies
>> AGENDA <<
In the last years, the global geopolitical context has been more strained, with war at Europe’s door, commercial tensions, shifts of alliances and reinforcement of others such as between the UK and the EU (summit in May 2025) and between Canada and the EU (summit in June 2025). It has therefore become more imperative for local economies to build up resilience to global changes.
Being at the external border of Europe, Atlantic regions have a key role to play. Interregional cooperation represents steady relations, nurturing mutual understanding, trust and giving birth to tangible project development and innovation. Regions from across the Atlantic share commonalities notably in the field of the Blue Economy.
This SEARICA session is organised to explore the role of interregional cooperation between non-EU regions and EU Regions from across the Atlantic, including outermost regions, in the resilience of coastal communities. The meeting will assess the role of the European Parliament and the European Commission in supporting those efforts.
It is organised within the framework of the Transatlantic Pilot Project, an initiative of an experimental nature, supported by the European Parliament, implemented for 2 years until December 2025. Its general objective is to foster the economic resilience & competitiveness of Atlantic coastal region by creating a cooperation platform at transatlantic level to initiate new tangible projects and innovation. It chose to initiate transatlantic cooperation on Maritime industries, and blue economy in general, with attention to climate change mitigation and adaptation as a core value for cooperation. The pilot project is implemented by the Atlantic Arc Commission of the CPMR, in cooperation with Forum Oceano (PT) and CEIMAR (ES), with the active support of the Welsh Government and the Province of Québec.
